The epidemiologist believes that going back is not a good idea, he calls for increasing hospital capacity and developing the testing strategy.
IThere are worrying indicators, we see the premises of a third wave on intensive sounds, but tightening the screw is not yet proportionate to the situation. We still have to wait and see the evolution of the indicators, ”explained Yves Coppieters on the RTBF news set this Friday at noon.
The epidemiologist presented the different options on the table: “; either we close the schools early, it is effective but it is not a choice of society. Either we have the courage to say that people with co-morbidities who are at risk of complications, that they really have to protect themselves while waiting for the vaccination.
“Going back on the measures we have taken is a bad idea, above all, you must not touch the shops, the outdoor plan is a very good idea, you have to give prospects to young and old, with protocols obviously. “
“We have to take the problem at the root and increase the beds. The hospital capacity has not changed since the 1st and 2nd wave. However, in other countries we have done it, we have set up temporary hospitals. And with us nothing has changed. But this problem of serious cases conditions the entire functioning of society. “
“The strategy based on PCR tests is no longer sufficient, self-tests and rapid tests are possible. Why are we not going faster in the decision? Why are we always late in Belgium? “
