An RCFE (Residential Care Center for the Aged) certification is a highly coveted designation. RCFE is a California requirement to operate a care and feeding facility. Those who work in the care of the elderly in these places must be certified. Those who administer them should also be. The manager certification is called the RCFE Administrator Certification.
Due to changes in the rules and new jurisprudence, in addition to making sure everyone in the industry knows and follows the rules, some continuing RCFE education is advised. It is also required by the state of California. So exactly how much RCFE continuing education is required now?
Currently, RCFE’s continuing education or continuing education requirements are 40 hours of ‘approved’ classes every two years. You can do this in 20 hours each year, or 40 hours at one time, regardless, at the end of the two years you must have completed the 40 hour RCFE continuing education requirements. You may be pleased to know that half of the 40-hour requirement may be through a California state-approved online course of study.
If you need to look up the exact regulation and law, see Section 1569.16 of the California Health and Safety Code.
The current fee for this RCFE continuing education is about $ 350 to $ 450 total, and most of the online pieces cost just under $ 200.00, but it’s worth comparing prices. It is also advisable to take more hours than necessary to be aware of the rapid changes in the RCFE sector. In California, as in many other parts of the country, our demographics are changing rapidly, as are new developments in case law and how the law is applied. It is essential to stay ahead.
Many in the industry believe that in the future RCFE’s continuing education requirements will be more complex, time consuming and robust. Experts see the RCFE field joining the ranks of many other industries that have seen the number of required continuing education hours increase over the past 10 years.
It’s best to book a class in advance because you don’t want to wait until the last minute when all classes are full. You end up paying an exorbitant price and have to travel outside of your area to attend classes. Online RCFE continuing education classes can be taken at any time during the two-year period. So you can do it now too and get the best possible deal online.
