The Circle Ten Council Cherokee District has become aware of the tremendous current and future growth of Forney, TX and as a result has started a new pack of cub scouts in Forney. The new package is numbered 1007 and is sponsored by Fellowship Baptist Church in Forney.
The pack is divided into dens in grades 1-5 that meet on average 3 times a month. Dens meet as a pack once a month for a pack meeting to reward and recognize boys. In addition to the weekly meetings, the pack tries to offer a minimum of 2 additional events each month that give children the opportunity to develop their character and advance.
The value of time invested cannot be underestimated. According to several studies:
- For boys with 5 or more years in Scouting, 98% will graduate from high school compared to 83% who were never Scouts.
- Former Scouts (40%) are also more likely to be college graduates than non-Scouts (16%). 75% of explorers get a B or higher compared to 62% of non-explorers.
- Among adults who were in the Boy Scouts for 5 years or more, the median annual household income is $80,000 compared to $61,000 for non-Scouts.
Furthermore, Scouting produces leaders:
- 89% of senior class presidents were Scouts
- 88% of school newspaper editors were Scouts
- 85% of student council presidents were Scouts
- 80% of junior class presidents were Scouts
- 71% of football captains were Scouts
- 64% of basketball captains were Scouts
Explorers also represent:
- 85% of FBI agents
- 70% of Annapolis graduates
- 68% of West Point graduates
- 64% of Air Force Academy graduates
- 26 of the first 29 astronauts
The point is that participation in exploration has a long-term benefit that extends well beyond years of active exploration. Participation in Scouting even magnifies the success of participating in other extracurricular activities. It is a great investment in the future of our boys to spend time instilling values and moral and character principles that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.
