Cooking is one of our favorite hobbies, we love to go into the kitchen and create tasty meals and treats for our loved ones. What we don’t love, though, is the trail of destruction we leave behind. How come there is so much clutter?
This has bothered us for generations, well, since the days of master and servant ceased to exist. At one point, all our ancestors had to do was sit at the table, have their food brought, and then walk away. The staff downstairs had to worry about the whole order.
If you were at the other end of the social scale and didn’t have servants, that wasn’t a problem either, as you couldn’t afford to cook elaborate meals, so there was little or no cleaning to do. The thing is, with today’s so-called time-saving devices, there seems to be more clutter than ever. In addition to the utensils we’ve used, there’s also a pile of appliances, like blenders, that need to be cleaned.
Of course, you may be very rich and have no idea what I’m really talking about, but I guess not. Okay, you might have a cleaning lady a few times a week, but an exploding kitchen isn’t really something you want to leave her with. Cooking is one of my great passions in life, ordering is not. I have tried several things to lessen this task; most of them didn’t work, I’m happy to report that this one did.
Clean as you go is now my motto in the kitchen. Keep a bowl of hot soapy water and wash each piece as soon as you’ve used it. Then, when you’re done, only the last things you’ve used will be left, much better than a tottering pile of dirty dishes.
In the long run, leaving everything to the end is generating more work for yourself. This is particularly difficult if you have guests over for dinner, you know what state your kitchen is in, but you can’t leave your guests to clean up. Cleaning as you go means you can enjoy your evening knowing that your kitchen is doing well.
