Jump rope is still not a piece of equipment that many people consider important. If I had a choice between running for fitness or jumping rope, jumping rope would be my choice.
All the years I’ve weight trained, jumping rope was never a thought in my world. If you had jumped rope, I would have thought you were doing nothing more than a schoolgirl workout hoping for a fast pace!
It’s amazing how you can grow training and miss such an important team that would have helped me in all areas of my training, at least from a sporting point of view. Jumping rope has been used for centuries by the greatest athletes of all time.
Jumping rope will build strength, explosiveness, speed, and burn a lot of fat in no time, but like anything else, it takes a bit of practice to jump and this discourages people from trying to get better.
I remember when I tried to cross the first time it took me a while to get the first cross and after the first cross it got easier. Over the years, I’ve shown a few people how to jump rope, and no matter how athletic they were, jumping rope challenged them.
Jumping rope has made my legs feel younger and faster and faster and no matter how well you do it you can always rise to the challenge by changing the speed, going longer, you can run while jumping rope and you can use the jump rope when doing sprints, hill sprints and bodyweight exercises.
The best athletes in the world still use the rope as an important part of training. It’s amazing that a piece of equipment that costs a few dollars can give you amazing results.
I jump rope almost every day as part of my training; I use it as my break between rounds or sets. Or I use it as part of training, going fast and hard for time. People who spend time learning to jump rope will benefit greatly from strengthening the body and developing a leaner, more muscular body.
One thing jumping rope has done for me has shown me that simple exercises that I never would have thought would be of great benefit actually changed the way my body has reacted to all kinds of sports that require explosiveness, agility, jumping and endurance. .
There are many types of ropes that you can buy; I mostly stick with a licorice speed rope or beaded speed rope. I have weighted strings and they are good on occasion to add a little variety.
Personally, I don’t like heavy handled ropes and cotton rope is too light. I like my strings fast; I want to be fast, so I want a fast rope. Most strings are around 9′ and a good length, I prefer a shorter string, the shorter the string the faster it spins.
Try it for a month or two starting slowly and a couple of times a week. Working up to jumping three to five times a week.
A good exercise for the advanced jumper. Jump down 100 times and do 25 push-ups as fast as possible for 10 rounds.
Try not to stop or rest as little as possible, for a total of 1,000 jumping jacks and 250 push-ups. Try to go for 1 minute to complete jumping rope 100 times and 25 push-ups.
