Urdu is suffering from very bad luck due to plagiarism these days. Without a doubt, the Urdu language, both in prose and poetry, has seen great writers, authors, columnists and poets. However, it is a great discouragement and disappointment for them to see their excellent literary works or poetry being plagiarized.
The following are the main types of plagiarism in Urdu literature and some practical ways to remove it.
types of plagiarism
idea theft
This is the most common form of plagiarism. Many so-called Urdu writers or poets steal ideas from others and publish them on their behalf.
shameless uprising
This is an extremely bad, actually wicked trend in this country that people blatantly pick up each other’s pieces and post them. It is rampant in two ways.
Ordinary people pick up literary works of great Urdu writers and submit them to be published in weekly magazines and monthly digests etc.
publishers publish plagiarized Urdu books.
Unaccredited translations
Urdu weekly magazines and monthly summaries are full of unaccredited translations. This is also a very bad trend of Pakistani magazines. People get paid for the Urdu pieces they never wrote, but only translated.
Uncredited compilations
The publishing house collects the excellent literary pieces, essays, stories or poems of various writers and poets. They neither ask the permission of the writers and poets nor do they give them any part of the immense profits they make from such Urdu books.
Ways to remove plagiarism
strict regulations
With the rise of the internet and the whole state of plagiarism in Urdu literature is even on the rise. Plagiarism laws are outdated and confusing. The government needs to pass strict laws to eliminate plagiarism from Urdu literature.
The rule of law
In addition to passing laws, the government must also ensure that they are implemented. This is especially important in Pakistan. Here rules are often made but never implemented.
Breaking the publishing monopoly
The state of publishing houses in the country is also worthy of discussion. In Pakistan, there are only a few publishers. These few publishers have made their monopoly on book publishing. They help plagiarism to make huge profits for themselves. If the monopoly of these publishers is broken and the new smaller publishers are given a chance, the situation can improve a lot. Urdu literature can also survive only in this way.
Respect for the literature of other languages and countries
We also need to make the masses respect languages other than Urdu. Here the general attitude of the public is that they do not care that unaccredited translations are simply stealing. This is giving Urdu a very bad name in the international community.
We will have to respect other languages if we want our language to be respected.
