Credit report dispute letters shouldn’t be a template for everyone. They must be personal to you. The letter will have sections that are going to be generic. For example, sections of it that address past lawsuits and cite applicable credit laws. Those parts of your letter that you might expect to be generic. That is understandable. You are telling them that you know what you are doing and that you know your rights.
When it comes to the actual damage you’ve had from the bug, the more personal you can make it, the better. When you express the damage you’ve suffered because of your mistake, make it as real as possible, putting your anger, frustration, and feeling really hurt about it on your credit report. You can mention how embarrassed you were about applying for credit and being turned down for something out of your control. Another way is to emphasize how you had to go without something, eg clothes, car, house, etc., because of their mistake. Make it real and emotional, make them feel what you feel or want them to feel.
Dispute cards, because of the emotions they provoke, should become increasingly aggressive. The point is that you will have to send more than one. Especially if you are going to contact the collection company, the credit bureau, and possibly the original creditor. Each letter will be different and will address a different aspect of your credit repair efforts. Make them aggressive as you go and draw the picture of the steps you will take if their concerns are not addressed.
Dispute letters for credit reports will differ from creditor to creditor and from the original creditor because you are trying to accomplish different goals. For example, you will ask credit bureaus to verify information. When you contact the original creditor, they will ask you to investigate, not verify information. Don’t confuse the two. Finally, the collection companies that you will question their ability and authorization to collect from you.
By doing this, I raised my credit score myself. I didn’t pay anyone to do it and I did it with a couple of different credit repair guides and a few months of writing letters.
