Enbetween March 5 and 11, 2,718 new coronavirus infections were recorded on average each day, an increase of 15% compared to the previous week, according to figures updated Monday morning by the Institute of Public Health Sciensano . Since the start of the pandemic in Belgium, 808,283 cases have been diagnosed. After stabilizing, hospitalizations are also on the rise, by 11%, for an average of 161.7 between March 8 and 14. The positivity rate increases slightly to 6.5%.
In nearly a year, 59,266 people have been admitted to hospital due to Covid-19. Some 2,013 are still there, including 484 patients treated in intensive care. Between March 5 and 11, an average of 46,000 tests were performed daily, a total up 7% from the previous week.
The reproduction rate (Rt) of the coronavirus stood at 1.09, compared to 1.05 the day before. When it is greater than 1, it means that the transmission of the virus is accelerating.
