Sciensano reports nearly 3,000 daily infections on average, an increase of 26%.
Enbetween March 7 and 13, 2,958 new coronavirus infections were recorded on average every day, an increase of 26% compared to the previous week, according to figures updated Wednesday morning by the Institute of Public Health Sciensano .
Hospitalizations continue to increase, by 12%, to an average of 168 between March 10 and March 16. The positivity rate increased slightly to 6.8%.
In nearly a year, 59,625 people have been admitted to hospital due to Covid-19. Some 2,086 are still there, including 523 patients treated in intensive care.
Between March 7 and March 13, an average of 47,700 tests were performed daily, a total up 9% from the previous week.
The reproduction rate (Rt) of the coronavirus stood at 1.10, against 1.11 the day before. When it is greater than 1, it means that the transmission of the virus is accelerating.
Between March 7 and 13, 24.4 people died on average per day from the virus, bringing the toll to 22,572 since the start of the pandemic in Belgium. Since then, a total of 813,026 cases have been diagnosed in the country.
