While there are many easy home businesses now available due to the advent of the Internet, how many of them would actually be considered good Christian home businesses? Well, it’s probably easy to see that selling ‘enhancement drugs’ wouldn’t be considered a Christian home business, but what about the more subtle criteria needed to qualify?
Does a true Christian family business need to help people in a physical or spiritual way or can a business still be considered a Christian family business if it simply follows the ‘best in class’ rules of conduct? Obviously, it’s not okay to sell blue jeans that were made in sweatshops by 8-year-olds, but would it be okay to sell $239 designer blue jeans knowing that the Wal-Mart versions are just as functional?
What level of profitability is acceptable in a true Christian family business before it looks like sheer greed?
These issues can be a bit overwhelming, so to narrow the focus I am going to define exactly what I believe constitutes a valid Christian home business:
1. No business is still a business unless it makes a reasonable profit. After all, even a Christian home-based business must pay the bills and provide some profit to the owner or there is no point in making the effort.
2. A Christian home-based business should strive to sell products of the highest value for the money charged. This should not be seen as a limitation, as high value products (of any price) will only create a loyal customer base.
3. A Christian home based business should deal only with sellers of products of the highest integrity. Your good name will be associated with the company you keep, so make them live by the same high standards that you have already chosen to live by.
4. A Christian home based business must provide superior customer service. This does not mean that you should sit by the phone all day waiting for your calls, but you should strive for no more than 24 hours to respond to questions and inquiries.
5. And you must never ignore your responsibility to the church and the community. When you’re making more money than you expected from your Christian home business, share with the people who helped you along the way, share with his church, and give back to the community.
No man is an island and no business works without the generous support of others. When you are at the top of the financial hill, keep this in mind and you will always be respected and loved for his efforts.
Follow these simple rules and your Christian home based business is sure to provide you with great financial wealth as well as personal wealth.
