The beauty and atmosphere of having the opportunity to visit the elderly is an indescribable joy in conversing with someone who is still mentally, spiritually, and emotionally alert. I recently spoke with an older friend whom I put in a little over forty-five years ago. She still wears the same perfume that she used in her youth and is still as sweet as it was when I was a child. Every time I go to visit her, I ask her how she is, her response is that she is grateful. This reminds me of what the heart is supposed to be like when having genuine love for others.
As we talk and I remind her of the days when I used to see her driving down the streets, she lights up because she can actually remember the name of the neighborhood and the streets we were talking about. When I look at my own mortality and the possibility of reaching the age of ninety or younger, I wonder if I would be as sharp with my mental abilities as my old friend. Her inner beauty and love for people is so moving that if you knew her; you would notice his love for God and a loving soul that would make you want to cry tears of joy.
In all areas of life we grow old; the years seem to go by faster and faster and the reality is before you know it, time has passed and we say; how times fly and where have all the years gone. For those of us who are still relatively young, physically healthy, spiritually and emotionally strong; reach out to the weak, the heartbroken, and those who feel emotionally depressed at times. “Then those of us who are strong must bear the scruples of the weak and not please ourselves. May each of us please his neighbor for his sake, which leads to edification.” Romans 15: 1-2.
The purpose of this life is to show love to others, to be a blessing to others, and to live a happy life as we grow in grace and mature as brothers and sisters in Christ. We must edify each other and encourage each other as time goes on. Although, there are many who may not believe in the Christian faith; I’m sure about one thing; All people in common want to be loved, supported, and cared for to some degree. One of the best ways to show your love is to spend quality time with your loved ones and those you love, find time to spend time with the sick and frail, the elderly, and people who just need to know that God loves them regardless of their shortcomings. . .
As you and I grow old, we grow old with grace, consideration, and sincerity without wanting anything in return, except that one day I hear Jesus say “well done, good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:21. The life we live should be because of the love we have for God and we should use our time, talents, and financial gifts to serve God fully and sincerely. Everything we do must be for the glory of God. When I look back on my friend’s life, the love he showed me as a child; I see the love of Jesus in your heart to this day. Love is returned to others when we grow old gracefully; Be an angel and impact the lives of others as you age.
