Leaving a job is not something to be taken lightly and it’s always smart to have a plan in place when you quit. However, sometimes a job just becomes unbearable and it’s not worth staying at any longer. If you are frustrated with your job and thinking about quitting, here are the top five reasons to quit a job.
1. You hate your job
Do you go to bed at night dreading waking up in the morning and having to go to work? Does your current job make you miserable, discouraged, unhappy, or dissatisfied? One of the best reasons to quit a job is because you hate it. After all, you spend so much of your life at work that you should try to find something you enjoy doing rather than wasting your life on a job you hate.
2. Your company has problems
Another reason to quit a job is if your company is in trouble. If the company you work for is losing money, downsizing, starting to lay off staff, or struggling, it may be wise to be proactive and start looking for a new job before your position is eliminated. Another reason to leave a company is if they act unethically or if they ask you to do things that you consider unethical or immoral.
3. You have problems with your boss
If you don’t get along with your boss, feel like you don’t like him, or constantly disagree with him, it could be a good reason to quit your job. Your boss or manager is the person in charge of deciding whether or not to advance in the company or get a raise. If you disagree with them, your chances of advancing or being rewarded for your work are slim or nil. Not only that, but it can leave you in a precarious position, as your boss may use the smallest thing you do wrong as a reason to fire you. Again, taking steps to find a job that is safer and more enjoyable could be a smart move.
4. You don’t make enough money
If your job doesn’t pay you enough to live on, or if you’ve had a life change, like getting married or having a baby, it might be time to look for a higher paying job. Of course, you can ask for a raise too, but if that doesn’t work, you need a job that can provide you with enough money to live on.
5. Your stress level makes you sick or causes problems in your relationships.
If stress at work is creeping into other areas of your life and making you sick, causing you to lose sleep, or testing your relationships with friends and family, you should consider looking for a new job. No job is worth sacrificing your health or your family for.
