Yes. Puppies poop. And they don’t go with their own sweeper when you take them home. So you need to be ready to clean up some droppings here and there once you get your new puppy.
The good news is that they learn! The bad news is that they need you to teach them. Therefore, you must train him to be the good dog that you always wanted him to be. So, here are some things to remember when faced with such difficulty.
First, most puppies are too young to know what they’re doing. They are not supposed to be responsible for your bladder or your bowel movements. A puppy may go potty in the right place sometimes, but you may have gotten lucky in that situation. They are more likely to get lost from time to time.
Second, as the owner, it’s your job to help your pup succeed in this area. Just like a small child, everything a puppy knows will be based solely on the person he sees the most. You have many options to choose from. No matter how easy they’re probably described in thousands of articles, all of these options, however, will never succeed if he’s not fully committed to them or his pup.
With those two main points aside, here are more things you should never do when training your new pup.
For starters, never leave your puppy unattended in the house at a young age. You always have to take care of them at least until they are one year old. This will only leave you with a huge mess to deal with when you return. When you can’t care for your puppy, put him in a restricted area to minimize the mess he will make. But of course, don’t leave it for too long.
Also, never yell at your dog or stick your nose in his mess. Think of it this way, human babies can’t even go to the bathroom on their own until they’re at least two or three years old, right? So don’t expect your pup to do any better than that. It will take time and accidents can happen.
Now, these are not sure fire tips. The accident can and will happen. But should an accident happen, never leave it unattended. Always make sure it is cleaned and no amount of odor remains. Because if he smells just a little bit of his poop in there, you can be sure he’ll expect more where that came from.
