The current deputy editor-in-chief of La Derniere Heure / Les Sports will be confirmed in his mission after a meeting with the Society of Editors of the Future.
Thierry Remacle was appointed Monday as the new editor-in-chief of L’Avenir by the board of directors of Editions de L’Avenir Presse, indicate an internal letter sent to Belga and an article published on the daily’s website. The current deputy editor-in-chief of La Derniere Heure / Les Sports will be confirmed in his mission after a meeting with the Society of Editors of the Future.
The soon-to-be-45-year-old man will be tasked with “strengthening the positioning of L’Avenir as a benchmark regional Walloon media and accelerating its digital turn”, according to the internal letter.
He must present his project to the Society of Editors of L’Avenir (SDR) “in the coming days”, in accordance with the recruitment procedure. The SDR will then issue an opinion which may be negative, but is not binding.
The appointment of Thierry Remacle appears as an internal transfer within the IPM press group, the leading Walloon press group since the takeover of Editions de L’Avenir by IPM last July.
Deputy editor-in-chief of DH – Les Sports since 2017, Thierry Remacle is presented as a “great professional in the local and sports press”, as well as in the digital transformation of the news press.
He started as a journalist for Le Soir in the province of Namur. He then became editor-in-chief of the Nouvelle Gazette in La Louvière and Auvelais, deputy editor-in-chief of Sudpresse and finally editor-in-chief Rossel Sports.
Les Éditions de l’Avenir Presse publishes the daily L’Avenir through nine editions in Wallonia (Namur, Luxembourg, Le Courrier de l’Escaut, Le Courrier, Huy-Waremme, Basse-Sambre, Entre-Sambre-et-Meuse, Verviers and Walloon Brabant). Les Éditions de l’Avenir also publishes Le Journal des Enfants. Since January 2021, the EDAs have been part of the IPM group which publishes La Derniere Heure / Les Sports and La Libre.
