Setting goals is one of the foundations for success, but how do you achieve some of those lofty goals you set for yourself? After implementing goals throughout my life, I have a 4-step formula that I follow to achieve any goal you set for yourself.
Step 1: Master your mindset
Change your mindset. This is the first and most important step. You MUST make a conscious decision that you want to be successful and achieve great things. The only thing that stops most people is self-doubt and fear of failure. Turn this doubt and fear into positive affirmations. Write these positive affirmations on a piece of paper and read them constantly throughout the day. These positive affirmations will reprogram your mindset into a powerful machine, you will become unstoppable.
Step 2: dream big
Make a list of all the different areas of your life with headings at the bottom of the page, eg Personal, Business, Sports, Family. Now, under each heading, using “SMART Goals,” write the Dream goal you’d like to achieve in each of these categories. Let your imagination and visualization run wild. If you want to become a millionaire by age 40, write it down. Want to start your own online business, write it down again. Dreams come true when you decide to take action. Once your dream goals are on paper, commit to reading them at least twice a day, even more if you can.
Step 3: Success Model
So how do we achieve our goals? Answer: The fastest way possible. Now, if you wanted to become a millionaire, you would go to a financial advisor. Now most people would do this, but there is an even faster way. Why not go to someone who is already a millionaire and ask him how he did it? Same with your other goals, you want to run a marathon, ask someone who has already completed dozens of them and then get their feedback on training, diet, recovery, etc. By modeling yourself after someone who has already been successful in that area, your chances of success are greatly increased. It also reduces the unpredictable approach you’d take if you were going it alone.
Step 4: Take Action
Well now we have our Dream goals in place, we have our Unstoppable Mindset and we have also found a Mentor to guide us, the final step is CONSISTENT ACTION. Make an action plan to accomplish at least one thing each day that will take you toward your goals. Become a person of action, instead of just a thinker. When you make it a habit to take action, you’ll build a snowball of momentum and confidence; nothing will seem out of reach.
