Sober living near me
Sober living near me means that I am in a very small apartment with limited space. It is not an easy task to find that perfect apartment! In order to find one I have to be very clear on my purpose. Am I looking for an apartment just for the sake of having a place to stay? Do I need an apartment just because I have had trouble finding one in the past? Are my needs the result of an addiction?
Sober living near me is often a phrase that people seek when choosing a sober living environment. Local sober living homes definitely provide a variety of advantages such as proximity to work, schooling, friends, family and other home-related needs, but at times, these same pros can challenge even your sobriety if it’s still fragile. One reason why I strongly feel that it’s important to choose an apartment nearby is because so many of the local residents are addicts. Addicts reside everywhere! There are addicts in the hospital, nursing homes, treatment centers, churches, group homes, friends’ houses, motels, apartments, etc.
Having said all of this, there are some sober living complexes where I have seen significant improvement in the quality of life of the residents. The key to recovery is to make sure that the support system you are in is able to help you overcome alcohol withdrawal symptoms. This can take time. However, if you are in a supportive environment, there is a greater chance for you to be able to successfully go through the process. This is why I advocate that you choose an apartment or condo with a strong support system in place before you begin any recovery program.
About sober living houses
One thing I have found from my own personal experience in the last year is that there are some amazing things about sober living houses. First of all, there is no judgment, gossip, or shame in the common rooms. When you step into a room, you are just another human being; there are no labels of “good” or “bad”, “drug addict” or “alcoholic”. Most of the residents, besides the resident physicians and therapists, are like family and will assist you in your recovery efforts 100% if the circumstances call for it.
One of my favorite benefits of living in sober living homes is that there is no peer pressure to “keep up with the Jones’. Residents are able to be their authentic self and live as they please (although I do recommend a female resident for this position). The residents are also encouraged to get out and move around as much as possible; this is not an opportunity for socialization. However, many residents do take time to visit with each other once or twice a week.
In closing, I want to say that anyone considering seeking treatment for a problem that they recognize as a problem in their lives should look at living in a sober living environment as an option. Not only are you receiving counseling and therapy, but you will also find an incredible support network in the common rooms. You can also look online for a list of nearby sober living houses. Also, if you’re considering a drug rehab center, I highly recommend going to a Christian drug rehab facility. Spiritual drug rehab centers are well-established and have many satisfied clients who are members. There is nothing better than leaving behind a heavy burden of addiction and hope for a better tomorrow!
