Most people want to save some kind of money so they can have more money for other things. One thing you can save money on is your cable TV bill. It’s amazing how some people’s cable bill can be incredibly high without them really knowing it. Here are some practical ways you can cut your cable costs and have some extra cash.
The first thing you can do is get down to a very basic cable plan. Often times, getting rid of extra movie channels and other services on your cable plan will help you save a considerable amount of money. Try contacting your carrier and see if you can get a cheaper rate from a different service plan. Often if you call, you get a better deal and you have nothing to lose by calling.
Many times you can add additional services to your cable bill and get a discount on all of them. If you get internet, phone, and cable TV from the savings provider, you’ll save money on each of these, helping you save a little money. In my area, they seem to have regular deals on combining all three services, and usually at a deep discount.
Look for a better offer. This is important because many times people start paying a fee and never check to see if there is a better deal. There may be a better deal with another company or there may be one with the company you are already buying the service from. It’s definitely worth buying most of the time.
Do your best to skip pay-per-view features on your cable box, at least most of the time. While these are movies that are released a little before they hit DVD, resist the urge. Watching the movies later on DVD or even on TV is much cheaper than the higher fees you’ll end up paying.
Another option you have is to simply turn off your cable subscription altogether. If you have Internet, this decision does not mean that you have to miss the shows. Most of the major networks offer their programs online the day after they are presented. There are also popular sites like Hulu that offer a wide variety of shows and movies to watch. It is possible to continue having entertainment without the monthly cable bill.
