What is the sport that requires the most jumps by each player? Beach volleyball, so what better jumpers are there to learn than the best.
How can I jump higher from the arena?
Jumping in the arena requires some changes in your approach. The sand will eat up your jump and this is known as the term “sand monster” in beach volleyball. Don’t let the sand monster catch you. You have to really jump with your last two steps. I have seen some players who prefer to take their last 2 steps at the same time. Usually you would take them one after the other very quickly, like in a hard court approach. If you take a jump and then plant your feet hard before jumping, you will pack the sand under your feet and be able to jump a little higher instead of sinking before taking off.
So as you can see, you can’t use all of your forward momentum and turn it into an upward vertical jump ability like you can on a hard surface. That is why it is very important to work on the vertical jump standing up. This means that you need to practice jumps that do not require an approach.
How can I work in my vertical position?
The best exercise I’ve ever done to increase my standing upright is to grab a knee-high chair and sit on it with a tall box in front of me. From a sitting position, jump explosively to land on top of the box. This will teach you to squat deeper before jumping and you will jump higher on the sand.
