The kitten is trashing your house, biting your feet, clawing at your furniture, and running chasing its own shadow so hard in the middle of the night that you can’t sleep. Okay, before you bring in the priest and try to drive out the evil; it’s just a stage, it will pass.
Think of your kitten as a little child. I would never expect a young child to feel perfectly still and constantly calm. In fact, if this were to happen, you would probably think something was wrong and would schedule a doctor’s appointment right away. The same should be said of your kitten, it is healthy for a kitten to be playful, if at any point he begins to act weak or lethargic it is fair that you seek veterinary help immediately.
If you do not have children, you have seen other parents with their young children in the park, children run like crazy and parents allow it. It is not because they are irresponsible parents; it is because they have learned a valuable secret. The more children run, the more energy they put out, which means they will tire sooner.
Your kitty is the same. Play with them, take the time to wear them down, and they’ll be cool when it’s time to cool down. Every hour that you are home with your kitten, you should spend at least ten minutes doing nothing but playing with your kitten. Go to the pet store and buy a toy, or even get a stinger and have him chase it. Use your imagination, not only will this time together be a great bonding experience, it will also drain your little ball of energy.
If your kitten is doing more than playing, it is important that he stop bad and harmful habits before the kitten turns into a cat. Let’s use raising the curtain as an example. If you have tried to wear them out and they are not yet breaking the habit of pulling up the curtains, it is important that you have a punishment incorporated. Get a small spray bottle and fill it with water, every time that kitty is one of the curtains sprayed it will soon associate bad behavior with water and stop doing it.
As your kitty becomes more at home with her family, the madness slowly fades. It is important to let him know that you see that he is behaving well. Reward him for lying quietly when it’s not time to play. Giving your kitty a treat for being good makes her want to do it more. The most important thing you can do is be patient. The kitten is just a baby and does not know how things work. You have to tell him what his limits are.
Yelling at your cat is not the answer, it won’t. Let them play and play with them. Too fast, you’ll have an adult cat on your hands and miss out on all the cute kitty things they used to do. Assume the responsibility; make sure you know what you’re getting into before you bring the cute fluff ball home. Most of the time, kittens are abandoned because the owners did not pay upfront how to deal with them.
