Right from the start, I want to clear up any misconceptions about what hypnosis is, and then introduce you to how to immunize yourself against “negative” hypnotic influences.
First of all what hypnosis is not: if you think that hypnosis is about totally dominating another person’s life then you are going to be disappointed and I advise you to leave this page. Not simply because it is unethical, but because it is impossible. This is good for the reasons mentioned below.
Why? Because ethics and moral code are all stored in the subconscious and exactly in the region you access when you hypnotize someone clinically or conversationally. Even stage hypnosis only works because the hypnotist is only addressing the attention seekers in the audience. But even then, they have been known to run into some people who would not respond to specific commands because, they later say, it goes against their moral or ethical code. This is good for the reasons mentioned below.
Now we all know what hypnosis is like and if you have spent any time researching this topic you must be familiar with the common examples of watching TV or driving your car and wondering where the time went and/or how it got there so fast.
In fact, there are hundreds of people trying to exploit this state of mind in you on a daily basis. Think about advertised media (TV and radio…while driving and the news). This industry, whether consciously or not, takes advantage of this hypnotic state that viewers slip into to send their message to you. Either to get into a certain frame of mind (ie the world is a scary place and I need to continually expose myself to this information in order to protect myself) or to purchase a particular product or service.
Fortunately, all you need to break these negative hypnotic spells is to think rationally and critically analyze the message. And, after further analysis, you decide that internalizing this message would benefit your life and then let it go. But, if it is a message that could have a negative impact on your life, analyze it, criticize it, ridicule it and discuss it. In reality, there are people who are “unhypnotizable” for the sole reason that they are too analytical.
So it’s as simple as that to protect your mind from having a damaging message change your life for the worse.
