SAccording to figures updated on Saturday morning by the Sciensano Public Health Institute, 2,153 people are hospitalized due to a coronavirus infection, including 550 patients treated in intensive care. The number of hospital admissions is up 26% with an average of 187 each day between March 13 and 19, compared to the previous week.
Between March 10 and March 16, 3,438 new coronavirus infections were recorded on average every day, up 36% from the previous week. Since the start of the crisis, 827,941 cases of coronavirus have been identified. The positivity rate is 7.2%.
Between March 10 and March 16, an average of 50,800 tests were performed daily, up 14% from the previous week. The reproduction rate (Rt) of the coronavirus also reached 1.14, against 1.16 the day before. When it is greater than 1, it means that the transmission of the virus is accelerating.
