Do you want to create a unique and special memory for your child? A home birthday party can be a fun and memorable experience, and it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Birthday parties in popular places can be easy, but they tend to be very repetitive and not particularly memorable. A birthday party at home can be as unique as your child. Many parents may walk away from this great experience because they may be overwhelmed by the prospect. Here are some quick tips to make your birthday at home fun and easy.
For starters, a birthday “at home” does not necessarily have to be at your home. Many are concerned that their living space is too small for a group of children, and this could be the case. However, you can create the magic of a birthday party at home in a rented room at a church, community center, club, or other location. Alternatively, you don’t need to have a big birthday to make it fun and memorable. In fact, the general rule of thumb. In general, the number of guests is equal to the age of the child, in other words, if the child turns 5, only have 5 guests.
The key to making a home birthday party magical is having a theme. The theme is also what makes planning and preparing fun. A theme is where your child’s imagination can shine. Themes can range from common marketed ones like Dora or Spiderman to what your child loves, like dogs or dinosaurs. The summer before her fifth birthday, my daughter spent many days at the beach collecting hermit crabs. So in late August when I asked him what he wanted his birthday theme to be, you guessed it, he chose crabs! And we had a blast creating various crab games and crafts!
If you have a group of children (or a few) in your home, the challenge is what to do with them. So the key is to focus on entertainment. I find that many birthday party companies focus on decorations, but in my experience, decorations impress adults more than children. Aside from balloons, which kids love, decorations aren’t really necessary.
What is needed is entertainment. With some well thought out crafts and games, you can both restrain the kids from going crazy at home and give them a fantastic time. Crafts are fun because they’re so hands-on, kids feel a sense of accomplishment, and they can take something home as a reminder of a great party. There are many craft ideas online, in books and magazines, or sold as pre-made kits. The fun thing is finding a craft or two that suit your theme. I generally recommend two crafts. More often it is too time consuming and children can only sit and concentrate for so long, but two offer variety and allow children to work at their own pace. Older children tend to spend more time on their work and therefore a more complex craft is probably good. Younger children tend to do crafts faster, but then they look forward to the next.
If you have children sitting on the floor or at tables doing things, it is also a good idea to pick them up and move them. I’m sure some readers are thinking, yes, but … I don’t have room for children to run. There are several games you can make that don’t require a lot of space. For example, old classics, like Simon Says or Duck, Duck, Goose, don’t take up much space. These classics can also be modified to suit your theme. Simon Says can become Superman Says and Duck, Duck, Goose can become Fish, Fish, Crab.
Of course, there are other ways to go with entertainment and a birthday party at home. You can also hire an outside entertainer, like a magician, or go to a movie party, but in my opinion, this makes the parties more generic and less special.
Besides entertainment, you also need to figure out the food. In general, with children, the simpler the better. Many go with pizza; You can also make hot dogs, sandwiches, or even just plain cake. Birthday parties don’t have to be at lunch or dinner. Also, birthday parties don’t need to be long to be fun. My recommendation is 90 minutes to 2 hours maximum. You want the kids to leave while they are still having fun rather than tired and bored.
In short, with a little creativity and planning, you can have a fabulous home birthday party that is unique, special, and memorable.
