Tai, a 26-year-old Brussels resident, had a well-established life. Trilingual, he works as a sales representative for a telephone company and he lives in Saint-Gilles with his girlfriend, a college student. But on March 10, while he was busy with customers, police came to the store, asking after him. They handcuffed him in front of everyone, and he walked through the hampered shopping arcade, not understanding what was going on. “Arrived at the Dilbeek police station, he learned that a VTM program devoted to calls for witnesses had mentioned a swindler who had raged in February of last year”, explains Jacques Lhoir, Tai’s father-in-law. “We had released the photo of this man, and then someone had contacted to say that he thought he recognized Tai. But they have nothing like it! After a night at the station, Tai found himself alone in front of the examining magistrate.
