London – The Queen should breathe a sigh of relief: Prince Philip has ended his hospital stay in London. The 99-year-old husband of Queen Elizabeth II (94) left King Edward VII Hospital in London on Tuesday after spending around a month in various clinics. He was successfully operated on the heart. “His Royal Highness would like to thank all medical professionals,” said the palace after Philip’s arrival at Windsor Castle. The Royal also thanked them for their recovery wishes. From palace circles it was said that he was “in good spirits”.
Video footage showed Philip leaving the clinic on the back seat of a black car. He looked weakened, but was apparently able to get into the vehicle on his own. The exact reason for the Duke of Edinburgh, as Philip is called in Great Britain, for the original briefing is unknown. It was just said that he had an infection. But it had nothing to do with the corona virus. Prince Philip and the Queen have already received at least one vaccination.
Ray of hope after the interview with Harry and Meghan
The two have retired to Windsor Castle near London since the outbreak of the pandemic, and the Queen has only appeared in public on a few occasions since then. Philip retired a few years ago. The Royals had decided not to have a family reunion at Christmas. Speculation about Philips’ health reached a climax when heir to the throne Prince Charles, 72, visited his father in the clinic in late February. The two had reportedly not seen each other in months.
The fact that Philip is now returning to the palace is a ray of hope for the royals, who have had a lot of trouble in the past few weeks. Prince Harry (36) and Duchess Meghan (39), who have broken away from the royal family and now live in California with their one-year-old son Archie, recently sparked a racism debate with an interview on US television. Among many other things, Meghan complained in an interview with talk show legend Oprah Winfrey that there had been speculation within the family about the skin color of their children and what that could mean for the royal family.
Harry’s brother William (38) was then forced to state that the royal family was “not at all” racist. Harry was also very disappointed in his father Charles, who is said not to have even answered the phone at times.
Kate visited memorial for murdered London woman
All of this threatened to shake the foundations of the royal family. But then another topic came up that dominated the headlines: The tragic fate of Sarah Everard, kidnapped and killed on her way home in London, moved the nation. A 48-year-old policeman is suspected. An outcry against violence against women went across the country.
William’s wife, Duchess Kate (39), mingled with the mourners on Saturday, who laid flowers at a memorial bandstand in Clapham Common Park. She remembered what it was like to walk through London alone with William before her wedding, the palace said. The honest-looking gesture of Kate, often viewed as an opponent of Meghan, reconciled many Brits a bit with their royal family. With the return of Philip, the world of the royals seems to be in order again. (APA / dpa)
