“He took all my money, brought me to this town and now he’s gone. We were getting married tomorrow here in Santa Fe.” Julie was having the time of her life two hours ago.
Sitting in an elegant cafe with a candle on the table, campaign and the most handsome of men. As the handsome man got up to go to the bathroom, another man walked past the table and dropped a note. He’d say, “Maybe you know this. The man you’re with has a wife and kid in Denver. He’s listed in the phone book as Charles Gleason. You can call his wife, who’s probably home every night.”
When she returned, she told Charles, “Someone walked past the table while you were away and left me this note, then handed it to the handsome man, also known as Charles Gleason. Charles read the note, stood up, and said , “I’m sorry Jules. I’m a fraud.” Then he left.
She almost faked it. The gentleman who brought the note returned, seeing her pitiful anguish. “Ma’am, what can I do to help you?” She said, “She took all my money, she brought me to this town and now she’s gone. I only have the clothes on my back, I have no friends and frankly I feel suicidal.” “She Said, I can understand. I have the sweetest sister in the world. In a minute you’ll have the best friend possible.”
She was gone for just a few seconds and here came a lovely girl her age who said, “I’m Barbara, what’s your name miss?” “Julie,” she replied weakly and tearfully. “Well, Julie, come with me. Let’s go to my house. It’s just me and my brother, and we have a spare room. You’ll be welcome and comfortable, and your worries will soon melt away, you’ll see.”
Come, come now.” “Oh, they won’t vanish, I’m in big trouble.” in the form of company stock. So, according to Charles, he was just moving company money, not stealing. They knew the stock would soon So when she did, she could pay the $300,000 back and still have $300,000 left over for a business she was going to buy here in Santa Fe.
She quit her job to come here so Charles could do some legwork to buy the business and get married. He now he has the $300,000 and he’s gone. She had been abandoned and left without a dollar and she will surely go to jail as soon as the company realizes that she has taken the money. She had loved him so much. How could she not see through him? She had been completely duped, just so he could get her hands on all that money.
Bobby, the man who left the note, had been informed of the events by a lady at the next table who had known Charles, but she refused to get involved, so Bobbie took it upon herself to write down what the lady told him. had said and placed it on Julie’s table when Charles went to the bathroom “Julie, listen to me now. My brother is a lawyer and a very good one. I think you have some sympathy for you. You are not a thief or a con man by nature. cheated I’m sure you can help,” said Barbara.
Bobby, Barbara’s brother, became a hero in Julie’s life. He managed to help the police catch Charles Gleason after talking to the district attorney. He located the stock purchase transaction. Charles Gibson actually tried to double the money and bought shares in the company Julie worked for, on her behalf. With the money back in the company’s control and the culprit in jail, Bobby arranged a parole request for Julie that he was sure would be granted. He gave him a job at her law firm and a loan from her to enable him to buy clothes and a car.
She stayed with Bobby and Barbara as the trauma settled in her mind. Bobby was falling in love with Julie and it was obvious to his sister and to some extent to Julie. She started to get stressed again because she adored him for what she had done, but she didn’t have any romantic feelings for him.
She was afraid that he would confess his love to her and what would happen when she told him that she couldn’t love him back. Thief as she was, she felt that she was still in love with Charles. However, something else was happening. She noticed that Barbara was also looking at the kind of cow eyes of hers. She began to think about this and was fascinated.
Barbara was a lovely lady with beautiful eyes and a perfect smile. She never came out with what Julie had seen. She occasionally went out with a friend. Nancy enjoyed looking at her and when they accidentally touched her she had a warm feeling.
Bobby had made a deal with the district attorney for a plea deal that would put Nancy on probation for five years. Now all he had to do was get the judge to agree that she could stay in New Mexico instead of going back to Colorado. He was so anxious to tell Nancy that he left early to surprise her at home. When he entered through the back door he felt strange, he was too calm or something was wrong. As if no one was home, but he knew they would both be here at this time of day on a Friday afternoon. He had given Nancy the day off and Barbara was working nights this week. He felt so strange to himself that he walked in silence. When he got to the living room, he literally got the shock of his life. There on the sofa were Nancy and her sister, naked.
