Whether you are actively looking for a job, currently between jobs, or simply looking for an additional income, working independently of your talents is a great way to be successful. There are many different routes to take to effectively freelance in Los Angeles. While staying in California for a while, I was able to successfully use some of the methods that I discuss below.
One of the first and most obvious ways to land a great freelance job is to search the telecommuting sections of major job boards. Once you enter “Los Angeles” into job boards, you will be pleasantly surprised to find that many popular companies are looking for freelancers to fill their jobs in Los Angeles. The only downside to examining these top job boards like Monster. com is the sheer amount of competition you face. Regardless, it is better to try and not be successful, than not to try at all. Los Angeles is a big city with big companies, so new jobs will appear on major job boards.
Personally, I have been very successful with online classifieds. Craigslist is obviously a popular choice if you want to freelance in Los Angeles, but once again you will find a lot of competition. Over the years, I’ve discovered some hidden gems for freelancers by checking out some of the lesser-known classified websites online. Once I enter “Los Angeles” on pages like “backpage.com,” tons of job opportunities appear. I have found that there are also far fewer scams on less popular online classified websites.
My personal favorite method of getting freelance jobs in Los Angeles is to sort through freelance job websites. These sites have a slight learning curve that can take an hour or so to master, but they are a great option if you need to find freelance work in Los Angeles quickly. For your first project, you may have to bid a little lower than your desired pay rate, but if you do a good job, you will often get a consistent customer. An example of this type of site is “getafreelancer.com”. If you enter your desired skills and Los Angeles location, you can peruse some great jobs. After completing several projects, you will be able to display your portfolio on your business profile on the tender website.
