I will simply provide the list below and provide my own brief review of each point I mention. If you take some time to read the article to the end, you will get more valuable information on this very serious topic.
Most of them cannot afford to go to school or are forced to drop out.
A good education is important to improve the lives of African children. Children in Africa lack the economic resources to be able to go to school. A large part of the African population has people living below the poverty line and therefore many families cannot afford to take their children to school because it is expensive. For example, 69% of people in Swaziland live on just $3 per month. This has caused disadvantaged children to have no formal education.
Rape is another problem faced by children on the African continent
Sexual violence is one of the biggest crimes against children, threatening the lives of many of them. Violence, domestic abuse and discrimination are some of the painful things that children have to go through every day of their lives.
African countries have poor health facilities, which has resulted in an increase in health problems for children.
The lack of health care facilities has increased the number of child deaths. Children suffer from waterborne infections due to lack of clean drinking water. Children also have health problems from mother to child, where mothers abuse alcohol and drugs creating abnormalities and growth disorders in babies.
Another problem that children face is hunger, which is caused by poverty where there is a lack of economic resources to buy food.
Hunger has resulted in malnutrition and underweight children. Most African countries rely on food donations to feed hungry children; there are also orphanages where orphans are cared for and provided with necessary basic necessities.
Large numbers of children in Africa are infected or affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic
This has increased the number of orphans and vulnerable children and has left large numbers of young people without parents or guardians. The pandemic has given rise to a high number of child-headed households. Also, because these children do not receive proper education, they have a high probability of contracting the HIV virus while caring for their sick parents or participating in “sexual games”.
