Wildschönau – Two ski tourers were very lucky on Saturday in Wildschönau. The two Tyroleans drove down to the valley below the Lämpersberg summit at around 12 noon. Due to the bad weather, they decided to turn back at around 2000 meters above sea level. On the descent one of the two then loosened a slab of snow.
“It was huge, about 200 meters wide, 100 meters long with a height of 50 to 70 centimeters,” says alpine police officer Christoph Silberberger.
The 44-year-old was carried away about a hundred meters and buried up to his head. “Only one hand was free. He was able to free his mouth and nose from the snow. “His comrade (46) alerted the emergency services and began to dig with his shovel. The rescue was successful – the victim remained unharmed and was even able to drive down to the valley himself, where he told the rescue workers what was going on Luckily – because a helicopter had to abort a landing attempt due to bad weather conditions (fog, blizzard).
