Christmas Decorations
White House Christmas decorations are a staple during the holiday season and into the New Year. The White House is usually in the habit of downing its usual decorating style on Christmas Eve, beginning at 8 a.m. PST. Visitors who have been to the White House in the past find that the decorations there are unlike anything else you will see anywhere else.
In many instances, the White House Christmas decorations reflect the way the First Lady normally tends to spend her time. First ladies enjoy the type of holiday decorations that reflects their personal style. Traditionally, many Americans like to spend their Christmas holidays in the early part of the year in the winter months. The first thing that most people notice about the White House Christmas decorations is the fireplace. It is very common to see a nice cozy fire in the background during this time.
Many people enjoy the sight of decorations such as a hanging Christmas tree or an outdoor mist or a rose garden during this time. Both of these types of decorations are common place in the homes of many Americans. A tradition began during the time of the First Lady’s husband in the 1800’s. During this time, the First Ladies enjoyed relaxing in their own private Rose Garden.
The White House Christmas Decorations do not stop with the fireplace and the Rose Garden. There are many other areas in the residence that are decorated for the holidays. Anywhere you would find a beautiful Christmas tree, you will see a similarly decorated Christmas table. This table often has some type of decoration around it. Often, it is a single white rose, but it can also be a cluster of red roses. In addition to these, it is not uncommon to find small plastic or silver bells attached to the tables.

Another area of the residence where the First ladies loved to be decorated for Christmas were their study or the Oval Room. The study usually had a beautiful Christmas wreath on the top of the tree. In addition to the wreath there were small plastic snowmen and elves hanging from the ceiling. These small characters symbolized the good tidings of the coming year.
The office of the First lady was another area that was decorated for Christmas. In these rooms you would often find a large white wreath on the top of the tree, which was then followed by smaller ornaments hung on the wall. Sometimes the tables would have cupboards where small items for Christmas were stored. Often times there would be a bust of the first lady and sometimes a bust of the First Lady herself. It was all part of the First lady’s plan to make sure that her visitors knew that she was loved and cherished.
Another favorite spot of the First ladies was their New York hotel, the Wolkoff. They often had a huge Christmas wreath on the top of the dome at the Wolkoff. This was actually the largest Christmas wreath that was ever made and presented to the first lady in the city. Any time that the First lady visited the Wolkoff she was given a special Christmas wreath.
All of the First ladies had beautiful Christmas decorations that were made with white lights in every shape and size imaginable.
