Dealing with a broken refrigerator is very stressful. I have dealt with some refrigerator issues in the past. Also, broken and inefficient fridges that are not maintained often tend to consume more energy.
It is essential to tune up your fridge periodically. It is a way to add more years to this appliance. Use the following tips to tune up your refrigerator:
1. Clean the condenser.
If you have a car, the condenser closely resembles the functions of a car radiator. However, the functions of a refrigerator’s condenser are a bit more complex.
You should minimize the accumulation of dirt on the condenser. Not cleaning it regularly can prevent the refrigerator from getting cold. It also tells the machine to use more power to lower the refrigerator temperature.
Use a special brush found in appliance stores to clean this part of the machine. There are generally two types of condensers in most modern refrigerators. The first is of the static type. This is located directly at the back of the fridge. The second is the condenser coil with a fan motor. You can find this inside the cardboard part of the machine. Hides the bottom area of the refrigerator floor.
2. Check the door seal.
The gasket seals the door and prevents cold air from inside the machine from escaping. If this doesn’t seal properly, the machine will run all the time. It will work harder to lower the interior temperature. It also leads to premature freezing of the evaporator.
One way to test the gasket is to insert a piece of paper between the gasket and the refrigerator. Try to remove the paper. If you can get it out easily, you probably need to replace the gasket.
3. Check the drain and remove any accumulated water.
The defrost heater in the machine tends to melt the ice. Excess water drains into the tray that is usually located at the bottom of the fridge. If the collected water is not disposed of regularly, it may overflow and cause leaks. It could also make your fridge stink.
Use a hair dryer to melt any frost that has built up on the evaporator. It should go directly into the drain pan. Remove the pan and clean it. You must unplug the fridge before doing this. You may also want to remove the contents of the machine as water could drain into the machine.
These are the simple tips that you would like to follow when tuning your refrigerator.
