McDo detractors like to present the Big Mac and its little ones as the absolute symbol of junk food.
They will undoubtedly have to review their classics: the first fast food chain in the world will indeed be offering vegetarian products in the coming months.
The first product of this new range will be a vegetable-based steak. The range could then extend to alternatives to chicken, or egg and bacon for breakfast sandwiches, the group said on Monday during a presentation of its strategic policy intended for financial analysts.
Trend
McDo is of course surfing current consumer trends, with plant-based food becoming more and more popular.
However, the channel was slow to catch the bandwagon. Several of its competitors – White Castle, Burger King, KFC or even Del Taco – already offer meatless alternatives to their customers.
Of course, McDonald’s will not suddenly become the champion of vegetarian food in the 38,000 restaurants located around the world.
The idea is therefore to initially offer this new range in a few key markets, before moving up a gear. History, no doubt, not to crash.
McDo is indeed McDo more than ever. No less than 70% of its turnover is generated through the sale of its iconic products such as the essential Big Mac and its battalion of fries or even the McNuggets, at least in its main markets, the United States in head.
Fast food chains have only briefly bowed their necks in Uncle Sam’s country since the onset of the health crisis.
100% drive
Admittedly, McDonald’s sales suffered initially, with a decline however limited to 8.7% thanks to the success of take-out sales. They then started to rise again.
McDonald’s is also planning to build new 100% drive-through restaurants, reserving lanes for customers who have previously ordered online.
To strengthen the customer experience, McDonald’s will also test a new online campaign site by adding a new loyalty program.
