Deterioration for women
The social and economic inequalities between men and women were exacerbated by the Corona crisis, so the tenor of the three opposition parties. At their request, a special session of the National Council took place on March 8, International Women’s Day. Originally founded 110 years ago as a socialist day of struggle for women’s suffrage and equality, this year International Women’s Day was all about the consequences of Corona. In Susanne Däubel’s contribution, women politicians report on their personal experiences.

Confrontations become sharper
Aside from the medical fight against the corona pandemic, the political debate is becoming increasingly heated. After the riots at the demonstrations over the weekend, there were massive mutual attacks, especially between the ÖVP and the FPÖ. And a government bill for further tightening of the epidemic law has blown the waves. With this template, fundamental rights and freedoms would be trampled underfoot, say the NEOS. The Ombudsman Board also criticized the draft by Health Minister Anschober. Claus Bruckmann reports.
EU asks for dialogue
In the EU Parliament, a year late, the starting shot for the Conference on the Future of Europe has been fired. In the next few months civil society is to discuss with EU politicians what needs to be changed in the EU. However, it is still unclear exactly how these citizens’ dialogues will take place. Likewise, the question of how results lead to possible reforms. Raffaela Schaidreiter reports from Brussels.
