1 / Salary indexation
Each year, on January 1, employees of the largest joint committee in the country are entitled to their salary indexation. According to the first forecasts experts from the service provider RH SD Worx, this one is expected to be 1.07%.
The final percentage will be known towards the end of December, that is, when the inflation figures are known. In fact, to find out this indexation percentage, you have to divide the average of the indexes (smoothed health index) of November and December 2020 by the average of the indexes of November and December 2019.
SD Worx points out that in the past, its estimates have always been very close to reality. For their part, the Securex experts, another HR service provider, are relying instead on a indexation of 1.12%. As a reminder, on January 1, 2020, the indexation was 0.8%.
In addition to the CP 200, other sectors have an indexation system which provides for an annual adjustment of wages to inflation at the beginning of the year.

For others, this does not necessarily happen at the beginning of the year. For example, Securex announces that the next fixed percentage indexation (1%) for the CP 202 (food retail employees) is scheduled to take place on June 1, 2021.
In addition, according to the forecasts of the Planning Bureau, the the next overrun of the central index should occur in November 2021. This exceedance would lead to rising public sector wages by 2% in december 2021.
2 / Cash for car
Cash for cars, popular name ofmobility allowance, gave employees the opportunity toexchange their (right to) a company car for cash, while benefiting from favorable social and fiscal treatment.
In a judgment of January 23, 2020, however, the Constitutional Court annulled the law who implemented this mobility allowance. Unless there is a law of reparation, cash for cash will therefore cease to exist on January 1, 2021.
3 / Extension of corona measurements
Several measures taken by the government to soften the negative effects of the coronavirus crisis will be extended for a certain period in 2021. This is the case of unemployment corona and temporary unemployment for childcare (until March 31, 2021).
In addition, the students who work hours in the care or education sector also benefit from an extended support measure. The hours that will be worked in the first quarter of 2021 will not count towards the 475 hours that students can perform per year.
4 / Overtime
On January 1, 2019, the maximum number of overtime hours which benefit – under certain conditions – from an advantageous tax regime, both for the worker and the employer, had been provisionally increased from 130 to 180 hours. “In 2021, this general limit of overtime will fall back to 130 hours“, according to the experts at Securex.
5 / Ecochèques
Ecocheques become 100% electronic. From January 1, 2021, ecocheques can only be distributed in electronic format. As a reminder, ecocheques are valid for 24 months. In other words, the ultimate validity date for paper ecocheques would therefore be December 31, 2022.
