Three quarters of workers want to save their days off or overtime for a later period and 60% hope to be able to retire earlier, according to a study by the service provider Acerta, which calls for a rapid generalization of career savings.
By the end of 2020, many Belgians had accumulated a surplus leave, which caused organizational problems in companies. In some sectors – including health care – workers have provided countless overtime and / or failed to take additional days off before the end of December.
“The periods of temporary unemployment, confinement and travel restrictions and bans did not encourage taking leave, which accentuated a recurring problem,” observes Amandine Boseret, legal advisor at Acerta.
The HR service companies underline in this context the usefulness of career savings. This existing system since 2017, allows workers tosave extra-legal days and overtime to recover them later. To extend their rest periods or advance their departure to the pension.
To date, career savings are organized at the initiative of a company or a sector and is not not yet generalized. Health care workers, for example, do not have access to it. But in thegovernment agreement, a call was made to the social partners to make career savings accessible to everyone.
